Steff Bee | Occupational Therapist
Steff Bee is a registered occupational therapist who has been working with children in Australia and the United Kingdom for the past 12 years.
She has extensive experience working with children with Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD), and sensory processing difficulties.
Steff is also highly knowledgeable in developmental coordination disorder, developmental delay, behavioural difficulties, physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, joint hypermobility, handwriting difficulties, mental health difficulties and children and young people who have experienced trauma.
She uses functional, goal-directed interventions when working with children, young people, and their families. Steff is certified to use the Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance approach (CO-OP Approach™), a performance-based treatment approach for people experiencing difficulties performing the skills they want to, need to, or are expected to perform.
Steff has also had additional training in providing behaviour support and is a registered Behaviour Support Practitioner with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, an independent agency established to improve the quality and safety of NDIS supports and services.
Steff’s occupational therapy history
Steff has extensive experience in private therapy practices across Newcastle, Maitland, and the Central Coast. She has also worked with ASPECT Hunter School and Royal Far West, and for non-government early intervention service providers assisting children with Autism and their families.
In the United Kingdom, Steff worked as a locum in schools for children with autism, schools for children with intellectual and physical disabilities, as well as for the National Health Trust for several Primary Care Trusts.
Steff also works as a Witness Intermediary as part of a program facilitated by Victims Services NSW. Within this role, Steff assists child witnesses to communicate in police interviews and in court.
Steff’s qualifications
Steff graduated from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours). Her Honours project investigated the impact of stability balls and discs on mainstream primary students’ sensory responses and handwriting outcomes. She was invited to present her work to Occupational Therapy Australia’s 24th National Conference on the Gold Coast.
She has also completed her Masters of Advanced Occupational Therapy (from La Trobe University). Her thesis titled ‘Examining the goal-setting practices of occupational therapists working with children with coordination difficulties’ was developed from Steff’s interest in goal-directed interventions.
